PKRU and NHRC promote human rights

PRPKRU (February 14th 2021) Phuket Rajabhat University's Faculty of Humanity and Social Science and the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand or NHRC hosted the opening event of the Regional Human Study and Coordination Center at Faculty of Humanity and Social Science Building.
The representatives of the university and NHRC, including Asst. Prof. Dr. Hiran Prasarnkarn, the President of PKRU, Mrs. Prakairat Tontheerawong,  member of NHRC, Mr. Boonkua Somnuek, the President of NHRC; and Mr.Theerapong Noochaikaew, the Dean of Faculty of Humanity and Social Science, signed the MOU for the human rights coordination in the presence of university executives and experts.
The university and NHRC are going to support each other in academic coordination, research, and learning which contribute to the development and application of knowledge to benefit human rights movement in society as well as to create a complete body of knowledge practical in the local community.
Besides, the center will work with regional sectors and other relevant organizations in providing activities supporting academic service and educating people about human rights promotion and protection through the appropriate human rights learning process under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the rights, liberties, and obligations of Thai citizens in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand.        
In the operation of the center, the university and NHRC will work in accordance with the missions, duties and the power of each organization, by focusing on the following actions:
 
1. Promoting and supporting the operation of human rights promotion and protection in the university under the framework of this cooperation;
2. Developing curriculums or courses relevant to human rights and managing appropriate human rights education in the university in order to create a body of knowledge applicable in the community and society;  
3. Working on activities for human rights support, promotion, and protection in order to develop education process and understanding in human rights based on local context, lifestyle, and culture and ensure that the locals realize and protect their individual and social rights in the appropriate manners;
4. Promoting the academic cooperation and research in human rights in educational institutes, sharing and using the academic works between those institutes; working together in providing academic service related to human rights in order to reflect the human rights situation in the service areas and analyze the solutions, scheme, and policy in human rights promotion to present to the government;
5. Enhancing the ability of personnel working in human rights movement, educating practical knowledge to lecturers, students, and staff in human rights through the real experience from field visits;
6. Supporting students to participate in internships and cooperative educational programs in the office of NHRC and network organizations in order to promote their ability and experience working in human rights promotion and protection;
7. Creating an area for cooperation and development or extension of human rights network in every sector in the community in order to support human rights promotion and protection.
