Phuket Province and PKRU to work on ‘Koh Maprao Model’

PRPKRU (March 5th 2021) Phuket Rajabhat University hosted a meeting on natural agriculture development with the Self–Sufficiency concept and working direction of ‘Koh Maprao Model’ at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology’s meeting room.
Attending the event were Asst. Prof. Dr. Hiran Prasarnkarn, the President of the university; the executives of the university; Mr. Narong Woonsiew, the Governor of Phuket; Mr. Piyapong Choowong, the Deputy Governor of Phuket; Dr. Wiwat Sanlayakamthorn, the President of Natural Agriculture Foundation; and representatives from related sectors and Andaman Natural Agriculture Network.
The meeting focused on the discussion of applying the Self – Sufficiency concept in natural agriculture on Maprao or Coconut Island (Koh Maprao), an island situated 10 minutes east off Phuket shores, which is home to abundant natural resources and a good location for agriculture. The university, under the action of Andaman Natural Agriculture Center/ Institute of Research and Development have planned to apply knowledge, human resources, research, and the concept of mindset-based human resource development to work on island development together with related government sectors. The intention of this project is to facilitate the islanders in living their lives and make a living through the agricultural resources, reducing household expenses, and developing the island to be a tourist attraction. The university will use the information and opinions gathered from this meeting to develop the roadmap with Phuket Province, for further Koh Maprao Model action plans.
