PKRU opens cultural tour route as part of U2T for BCG 2nd phase

Mr. Panpermsak Arunee, the Head of Strategy Administration Division at Office of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, led the team to visit U2T for BCG project in Sri Sunthorn Sub – district, Thalang District, Phuket. The team was welcomed by the Asst. Prof. Dr. Hiran Prasarnkarn, the President of Phuket Rajabhat University; and Mr. Chalermpol Kerdsap, the Mayor of Sri Sunthorn; the representatives from PKRU.
Sri Suntorn Sub – district has been doing U2T for BCG project focusing on the area’s historical, cultural, and community uniqueness in the first phase of the project; which inspired the cultural touring route called ‘Pa Wen Kab Nen Porn’ in the second phase of the project. This low carbon touring route would take tourists to see Sri Sunthorn original life style and culture in various places including Thai Buffalo House – the house of million baht Thai buffaloes, Phraya Wichit House, and the ancient junk boat route.

Besides, the project also presents local cuisine catering service is available for organizations, offices, entrepreneurs called ‘Ua Chan’ featuring popular and healthy local dishes such as dishes anchovy chili paste, boiled vegetables, local chicken curry, cave fish; all served in ua chan or Chinese style food carriers to reduce plastic waste.
Mrs. Amporn Pasomsap, the President of the Community Enterprise said that “Our community has many good products and services, but the locals did not know how to present them. The U2T project supervised by PKRU has trained the locals to manage community tourism and to present products to tourists while they can keep their original way of life at the same time generate more income to the community”.


Asst. Prof. Dr. Hiran Prasarnkarn, the President of PKRU, added that this project would never be this successful without participation from every related sector whose intention was to support the community development.
Mr. Panpermsak also commented that “the project in Sri Sunthorn is the result of community need survey and participation between the university, local administrative organization, and community members which is really beneficial for people in the community”. He also suggested PKRU to expand the extent of the project by working with the Tourism Authority to advertise the touring route; and PKRU itself work on the marketing of the Ua Chan catering service and recipe development.
