PKRU presents information of climate change in Phuket

PRPKRU (December 7th 2022) The Privy Counselor, Gen. Dapong Rattanasuwan, presided over the opening of the Lesson and Flooding and Land Slide Preventing Project Integrated with Phuket Climate Change Plan, which was co-organized by Phuket Rajabhat University and Phuket Province. The event was held at Khun Lert Phokharak Conference Room in Andaman Pannarai Conference Complex with the attendees in the event included Mr.Narong Woonsiew, the Governor of Phuket; Dr. Boonsuppha Tanthai, PKRU’s Vice President in Engagement Administration; local administrative organizations, related government offices, university staff and students.



In this event, Asst. Prof. Dr. Pattama Hemachukiatkul and Dittaporn Kaewmuneechote, as well as scholars from the Prince of Songkla University Phuket Campus, presented climate change information on the topic of Analysis of Extreme Rainfall and Flooding in Phuket City; Past to Future.
"The extreme rainfall in October and November of this year was the result of La Nina phenomenon, which caused damages to people and government properties as well as the island's environment and geography. Local residents were concerned about the government's information, disaster alert, and mitigation plan. Phuket Province, as the primary agency in charge of disaster mitigation on the island, worked with other government agencies to determine the causes of the disaster, as well as disaster prevention, mitigation, and public relations.” said the Governor of Phuket at the event.
After listening to related government sectors, the Privy Counselor also suggested that related sectors analyze the disaster and devise effective prevention and mitigation plans by reviewing and determining a variety of scenarios in the short and long term, as well as determining roles and responsibilities for quick and non-redundant actions.
