PKRU signs MOU to alleviate labor shortage problem in Phuket

PRPKRU: On January 26, 2023, Phuket Rajabhat University (PKRU) organized a formal signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between PKRU, Phuket Provincial Employment Office and Committee for Promotion of Phuket Rajabhat University Affairs. The tripartite agreement aimed to raise part-time employment opportunity for PKRU students during their leisure and to alleviate labor shortage problems in Phuket tourism market. On this occasion, Mr. Danai Sunantarod, Deputy Governor of Phuket Province honorably presided over the signing ceremony and was warmly welcomed by Assistant Professor. Dr. Hiran Prasarnkarn, Acting President of PKRU. Also present at the ceremony as honorable signatories from Phuket Provincial Employment Office and Committee for Promotion of Phuket Rajabhat University were Mr. Pichit Singthongkham and Dr. Wipaphan Kusuwan, the Committee Chairman respectively. The signing ceremony was witnessed by PKRU executives, staff, students, and honored guests at the Meeting Room of Faculty of Agricultural Technology, PKRU.
The MOU agreement has been established for the benefit to PKRU students for part-time job employment opportunity encouraging them to spend their free time working at workplaces where their workforces are shortage and in need. Students are able to generate income from proper workplaces while studying and most importantly, it helps to lighten the financial burden of their parents. In addition, students can gain real-life work experiences, practice soft skills e.g. responsibility, self-discipline, punctuality, and get themselves well prepared to be valuable human resources for their future careers. In the meantime, it can significantly reduce labor shortage problems of a number of workplaces in Phuket due to manpower shortage crisis caused by the COVID-19 epidemic.


Assistant Professor Dr. Hiran Prasarnkarn, Acting President of PKRU said, “Phuket Rajabhat University has formerly established Part-time Job Student Coordination Center that aimed to collaborate with relevant agencies to enter into this MOU agreement. The next plan for the university is to recruit students who wish to work during their free time after studying, then work performances of students will also be followed up to review and improve their competency to be quality human resources for future work,”
Mr. Pichit Singthongkham, Phuket Provincial Employment Official said, “Phuket Provincial Employment Office, according to the MOU agreement, is willing to collaborate in surveying and gathering information about part time job vacancies from employers/business owners and submit job vacancy information to the PKRU Part-time Job Student Coordination Center. In addition, the Employment Office regularly arranges job fairs, we, therefore, will be able to add information of students seeking part-time jobs to employers / business owners; it is also more convenient to increase the employment opportunity for the students.”
After the signing ceremony, there was also a discussion on the theme "Cooperation to promote students’ part-time employment" shared by four honorable speakers. Mr. Danai Sunantarod, Deputy Governor of Phuket, shared the discussion on the topic of “Guidelines for labor shortage solution in tourism and service industry”, Mr. Kampanat Thaimitchob also gave a lecture entitled “The role of PKRU Part-time Job Student Coordination Center” , Mr. Pichit Singthongkham, Phuket Provincial Employment Official delivered his talk on "Employment service missions for part-time job students” and Mr. Suksit Suwanditakul, President of the Thai Hotel Association (Southern Region) shared his speech about “Employers’ needs and expectations for part-time job students’ employability skills”
