PKRU works with Andaman Fishing Network to develop Blue Crab Bank
PRPKRU (February 8th 2023) (February 8th 2023) Acting President Asst. Prof. Dr. Hiran Prasankarn of Phuket Rajabhat University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Blue Crab Bank network communities to begin collaboration in Blue Crab conservation through the Blue Crab Bank project in Phuket, Phang Nga, and Ranong. PKRU will work to support the project through learning management, technology, and innovation, as well as promote the project as a creative tourism attraction using crab products.
"Blue crab is one of the most popular seafood menus and exported seafood products generating huge income to the country," said Asst. Prof. Dr. Hiran Prasankarn. Crab numbers had been decreasing due to increased demand; as a result, the government and private sectors began projects and activities contributing to blue crab conservation, one of which was Blue Crab Bank."
The Faculty of Agricultural Technology will collaborate with the Blue Crab Conservation Network to increase blue crab production and return the crabs to the wild in Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi.
