PKRU Anniversary 50+ Maholan Festival “International Conference: Batik Culture – the Mutual Heritage of Asia”
PRPKRU (February 14th 2023) Phuket Rajabhat University's Office of Art and Culture, in collaboration with ANBD or Asia Network Beyond Design, hosted the first international symposium on "Batik Culture - the Mutual Heritage of Asia" at Khunying Kanchana Na Ranong Art Center. Mr. Narong Woonsiew, the Governor of Phuket, presided over the conference's opening, which was attended by honorable guests such as Asst. Prof. Dr. Hiran Prasankarn, acting President of PKRU, Asst. Prof. Dr. Khan Phayoongpan, Director of PKRU Office of Art and Culture, university executives, international scholars, students, and locals.
“First and foremost, congratulations on the 50th anniversary of PKRU's service to the local community. Clothing, as we all know, is one of the four necessities of human life. It reflects people's culture and wisdom through the methods and materials used in its creation, as well as the identity of each community in Asia where people share cultures, including dress culture, particularly Batik or Pateh, an iconic cloth found in many Asian countries.
Scholars have worked on research on this type of cloth; numerous Batik making and learning centers and museums have been established, and numerous books and research papers have been published. This contributes to the continued existence of Batik in the modern era. I believe that this conference will serve as a forum for people to share their knowledge of Batik while also establishing a network to promote better knowledge and marketing of Batik products in Asia." Phuket's Governor stated.
