Management of the local development fund and the Thailand Science, Research and Innovation Fund are providing funding for the research. Examining the development plan that positioned Phuket as a culture and language learning city for internationals and as a destination for cultural tourists to the Old Town region of Phuket is the primary goal of this research. The university's mission is to accomplish this through close collaboration with local schools, the Phuket City Municipality, the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization, the Phuket Old Town Community Enterprises, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket Branch. The goal of this joint effort by the university, various branches of local government, educational institutions, and members of the local community is to transform Phuket Old Town into a hub for language and culture immersion for foreigners and to increase economic opportunities for local business owners.
The following are the three sub-projects that make up the research project:

  1. Creating a digital tool to teach foreigners about language and culture through the use of virtual reality.
  2. Helping local businesspeople improve their English communication abilities.
  3. Training of young Chinese tour guides and innovative communication strategies to encourage local restaurant owners to participate in the next UNESCO City of Gastronomy campaign.
