PKRU presents research on "Kebaya Pusa Silp" following its designation as Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has listed the traditional costume of Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, and Singapore, known as Kebaya, in its representative list of Intangible Cultural Heritage on December 4, 2024.
PKRU, the local university, has been conducting research on this traditional costume. The study was conducted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Wikrom Kringkaew and a team of students from the Faculty of Humanity and Social Science's Performance Art Management. The primary focus of the research is the examination of the historical account of Kebaya, which served as a model for the development of numerous costumes that were showcased at the Kabaya Pusa Silp exhibition. The Research and Development Institute of PKRU provided funding for the research. It is anticipated that the research's findings will be implemented to encourage cultural tourism in Phuket.
In addition, the Kabaya is a traditional costume that is worn by women in Southeast Asian countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, and Thailand. It is derived from the Baba-Peranakan culture, which is a unique blend of Chinese and Malayan influences.
