(PRPKRU) Moo Hong is a Phuket specialty passed down through Thai-Chinese descendants. The main ingredient is diced pork belly stewed with Chinese spices and black soy sauce until tender and delicious!
Because of the popularity of the delectable menu, Maimorn Forest restaurant, known as one of the most famous Moo Hong sellers on the island, collaborated with the Food Technology Program at Phuket Rajabhat University to create Moo Hong ready-to-eat packages for people to grab and go.

Ajarn Prasert Jariyalerpong or Ajarn Too from FoodTech PKRU told us the story of the product that “The restaurant asked us to make instant Moo Hong that could be shipped across the country. We get the dish from Maimorn restaurant for product design and packaging development. We used a high heat resistant Retort Pouch sachet to contain the food before sterilizing it. The food is well preserved and has a one-year expiration date.

Our work helps enhance production capacity to the entrepreneurs. We have numerous food development projects which add value to local food products. Moreover, we also offer Food Clinic service advising people or local SME owners or restaurans in using science knowledge in food development.”

Mr. Watcharakorn Na Takuatoong, Maimorn Forest restaurant owner also added that “Our Moo Hong is famous and unique because we marinate the pork overnight in our secret spice blend before steaming it for more than 6 hours until the pork is tender and the sauce is rich and delicious. This is our most popular menu, which customers frequently purchase and take home to their families in other provinces. To preserve the flavor and quality of Moo Hong while traveling across the country and selling it in the online market, I asked PKRU to work on packaging and preservation.”
