PKRU recommend teachers to use “ChatGPT” in classroom

Despite AI's remarkable abilities to assist humans in a variety of disciplines, we cannot deny that there is a concern that AI would think and manage everything instead of humans. People in the field of education are concerned that students will utilize AI, particularly ChatGPT, to do educational assignments such as reports, essays, and homework rather than studying and completing those assignments on their own. As a result, we can claim that AI is now a restricted tool in most classes, including Phuket schools.
ChatGPT is a large language model using GPT-3.5 technology invented by OpenAI. This AI chatbot that uses natural language processing to create humanlike conversational dialogue. The language model can respond to questions and compose various written content, including articles, social media posts, essays, code and emails.
According to Asst. Prof. Dr. Nipon Boriwethanond, a lecturer in the Teacher Professional Program in the Faculty of Education at PKRU and an expert in the application of educational technology, "If you can't resist it, use it!" may be an appropriate expression for the situation that teachers face in the digital age.
Dr. Nipon added that if used appropriately, ChatGPT has a potential to revolutionize education and communication between teachers, students, and parents.

"At the moment, I estimate that over 80-90% of teachers in Phuket schools are not open to or are unaware of the benefits of this application, whereas some students, particularly those in urban schools, have begun to use the application in doing homework or reporting. So the time has come for teachers to learn how to utilize this application and use it as an assistance in their classrooms, particularly in high school, where students must think, research, and study a variety of sciences.” Said Dr. Nipon.
“Rather than being fearful of AI, we should be enthused about it and embrace it to help increase students' abilities and educational quality. This tool enables our students to access vast amounts of material from thousands of websites, whereas previously they could only visit webpages on the first page of a search engine (such as Google) or turn pages in textbooks produced over decades. Students will be accustomed with processing and analyzing massive amounts of prompt data if teachers motivate and facilitate them in learning to think like AI in terms of idioms, data processing, and presentation. Is this the classroom we've imagined?”.
“I am assured that OpenAI and ChatGPT, as helping tools, will immediately revolutionize the style of education in terms of deeper and broader testing, homework correction, lesson planning, slide presentation, and content preparation. The most significant aspect of all is defining the keyword and role; for example, the user is an English instructor who wants the task of creating a grammar lesson plan for high school students.
However, I do not propose using the application in primary and secondary classrooms since students need to go through fundamental education; if students or parents use AI to do homework or report, our education will be like instant noodle, which would be detrimental to the students.”
Phuket Rajabhat University's Faculty of Education is working on online training for Phuket teachers to utilize ChatGPT in many subject areas, as well as educating parents to use the application to help their children's education.
Furthermore, the university employs the application in the subject of Innovation and Technology for Education and plans to offer training for schools in the Andaman region in the future.
